The programme is part of the European Union (EU) Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and reinforces the importance attached to the protection and restoration of rivers and streams and the sustainable economic and social development of the territory. It includes a theoretical approach to the region’s classified areas\, with a presentation of technical and scientific projects developed in the region\, complemented by a practical component\, which includes visits to protected areas – Montesinho Natural Park\, environmentally modified areas – Baixo Sabor Hydroelectric Power Station and areas targeted for rehabilitation – the urban stretch of the River Fervença.
